LED Lighting Upgrades

Replacing your existing lighting with LED is one of the most straightforward ways to reduce energy consumption across your estate. We survey your installation, specify the right solution for each space, and carry out the full replacement – retrofit where appropriate, full refit where it is not.

What does a commercial LED upgrade involve?

The right approach depends on what you have. For many commercial premises, retrofitting is the better option: upgrading the existing fitting where it is suitable, without replacing the complete installation. This can be faster, less disruptive, and avoids unnecessary waste. For older or damaged fittings, or where the design of the space has changed, a full replacement is the right call.

Before we specify anything, we survey your existing installation. We record what is currently installed, assess its condition, and identify which spaces have different lumen or colour temperature requirements. An open plan office, a server room, a car park, and a reception area all need different things from their lighting.

The phase-out of many commonly used fluorescent lamps is also making replacement stock increasingly difficult to source. Fluorescent tubes contain mercury and require appropriate disposal, making this a good time to consider whether continued maintenance or an LED upgrade is the better long-term option.

Smart controls

LED lighting is compatible with a range of smart control systems: presence detection, daylight harvesting, and programmable dimming. Where these are appropriate for your site, we can design and install them as part of the upgrade.

What our service includes

We carry out a full site survey and produce a specification covering luminaire selection, lumen output, colour temperature, and any controls. We manage the installation by our own qualified engineers, working around your operations, and carry out commissioning and testing before handover. You receive the appropriate electrical certification and documentation.

Why Prolec

We survey before we specify

We assess what is installed, what each space needs, and whether retrofit or full replacement is the right approach. You get a solution designed for your building, not a standard package.

We handle the full scope

Survey, design, supply, installation, controls, and certification. No coordination between multiple contractors.

We know specialist environments

Data halls, heritage buildings, education facilities, and occupied commercial offices each have specific requirements. We have experience across all of them.

FAQs

Straight answers to the most common questions about LED lighting upgrades.

What is the difference between retrofit and full replacement?

Retrofit involves replacing the lamp and driver within your existing fitting. It is quicker and less disruptive, and works well where fittings are in good condition and the original layout still suits the space.

Full replacement removes the fitting entirely and installs new luminaires. We advise on which approach is right for each area of your site during the survey.

Do we have to replace all our lighting at once?

No. We can phase the upgrade by floor, zone, or building, which allows you to manage the project around your operations and spread the capital cost. We design the programme so each phase is complete and functional in its own right.

What are the implications of the fluorescent lamp ban?

The UK has banned the sale of most fluorescent lamps, including T8 tubes. Replacement stock is becoming harder to source, and the maintenance cost of an ageing fluorescent installation will continue to rise. Fluorescent lamps also contain mercury and require specialist disposal. Switching to LED removes both problems.

Can you integrate smart lighting controls?

Yes. Presence detection, daylight harvesting, and dimming can all be incorporated as part of the upgrade. We design the controls alongside the luminaire specification so they work as a system, not as an afterthought.
